About our turfing work

A fresh lawn pulls a garden together faster than almost anything else. Most of the work, though, happens before the turf arrives: clearing, levelling and preparing the soil so the roots take properly.

We lay new lawns across Basingstoke, Andover, Newbury and the surrounding areas, shaping levels and edges neatly against paths, patios and borders, and leaving you with straightforward watering advice for the first few weeks.

How the lawn will be used
A lawn that takes daily football wears differently to one that is mainly looked at, and that affects preparation and turf choice.
Light and drainage
Deep shade and ground that holds water are the usual reasons lawns struggle. Both are better addressed before turf goes down.
Shape and edges
Simple, flowing edges look calmer and are far easier to mow than fussy shapes.
Aftercare
New turf needs regular watering while it establishes, and a first cut only once it has rooted.

Common questions

When is the best time to lay turf?: Spring and autumn are usually kindest, though turf can be laid at other times with more attention to watering.
How soon can I walk on a new lawn?: Keep off it as much as possible at first and be gentle for the first few weeks while the roots knit in.
Can you turf over an existing lawn?: We do not recommend it. Removing the old surface and preparing the soil gives a far better long-term result.
How much watering will it need?: Generously and often in the early weeks, especially in warm weather. We will leave you clear guidance before we go.
