About our paths work

A good path does two jobs at once: it gets you where you need to go without walking on wet grass, and it quietly shapes how the garden is seen. A straight run to a shed feels very different to a gentle curve through planting.

Where you actually walk
Worn lines in the lawn are the best guide. A path that follows how you already move around the garden always gets used.
Width and comfort
A main route is far nicer to use if two people can walk side by side, while a border path can be narrower.
Grip and safety
Shaded, damp routes benefit from a surface with more texture, especially where there are steps.
Edges and planting
Clean edging keeps gravel in place and stops planting creeping across the walking surface.

Common questions

How wide should a garden path be?: As a rough guide, a comfortable single route is around 90cm and a path for two people around 120cm. We will advise based on the space you have.
Can you match a path to my existing patio?: Where the paving is still available we will aim to match it. Where it is not, we can suggest a complementary tone instead of a near miss.
Do gravel paths need much maintenance?: Occasional raking and topping up keeps them looking right. Solid edging and a weed membrane underneath reduce the work considerably.
